The Belezma National Park (Arabic: الحظيرة الوطنية بلزمة) is a very important national park in Algeria. It was created in 1984 and is found in Batna Province. The park is located on the slopes of the Belezma Range, which is a smaller part of the Aurès Mountains.

Geography

The park covers an area of 262.5 square kilometers. The main peaks in the park are Djebel Tichaou, which is 2,136 meters high, and Djebel Refaâ, the highest point in the Belezma Range at 2,178 meters.

The biosphere reserve includes historical sites, caves, and tombs that show evidence of ancient civilizations. The area has a variety of habitats, such as pastures, forests, grasslands, thickets, foothills, rivers, and mines. The climate varies from cool and moist to dry and arid. There are 447 plant species (14% of the country’s total) and 309 animal species, including 59 protected species. The park is the largest home for the Atlas cedar tree. It has been named an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supports large numbers of many bird species.
