La Visite National Park (French: Parc National La Visite) is one of the two largest national parks in the Republic of Haiti. It is part of the Massif de la Selle mountain range. The highest point in the park is 2,275 meters above sea level. The park covers about 11,419 hectares of land, with 1,897 hectares above 2,000 meters in elevation. The area is mainly covered by pine forests, grasslands, and some mountain forests with broad leaves above 1,700 meters (5,600 feet). The Haitian government created La Visite National Park in 1983. The capital city, Port-au-Prince, is located 22 kilometers to the south of the park. The northern edge of La Visite National Park is marked by a steep slope that runs east to west, part of the Massif de la Selle mountain range.
Vegetation
The park has several types of plant life, including forests with broad leaves, grasslands, and pine trees. The Hispaniolan Pine (Pinus occidentalis) is the most common tree in the park. Other types of forests found in the park are karst broadleaf forests and wet broadleaf montane forests.
Avifauna
The park has great places for birdwatching. It has more than 80 types of birds. Some of these birds are in danger, and a few are found only on the island of Hispaniola.
