The park is found in mountainous regions within the Bostonliq, Parkent, and Ohangaron districts of the Tashkent Region.

The Ugam Range passes through the park, reaching heights of up to 4,000 meters (13,000 feet).

The park has over 1,000 kinds of plants, including 70 types of trees. The northern and eastern sides of the park have forests, while the southern sides have few trees or are open fields. The park is home to animals such as wild boars, mountain goats, brown bears, wolves, foxes, rabbits, and many bird species.

The park has a continental climate. Winter temperatures average between -14.5°C and -32°C, while summer temperatures range from 33.5°C to 42°C. The park receives between 400 and 900 millimeters of rain each year. Three hydroelectric power stations are located inside the park along rivers and streams.

The park also includes the Chatkal Biosphere Reserve, covering 47,945 hectares of mostly mountainous land. This reserve, added to UNESCO's list in 1978, has cave paintings known as the Tereksai Petroglyphs. These ancient carvings, made between 1,000 and 2,000 BCE, show images of riders, houses, and dogs.
