Körös-Maros National Park is one of 10 national parks in Hungary (area 501.34 square kilometers), located in Békés County on the Southern Great Plain. The park was established in 1997 to protect birds.
The park includes several areas, such as Kis-Sárrét swamp, Fáspuszta, Mágor-puszta, and Kardoskúti Fehértó. It has a bustard reserve that was created in 1975. The main towns near the park are Szarvas and Dévaványa.
During autumn migration, large groups of birds gather at Lake Fehér near Kardoskút. The lake serves as a resting place and nesting site for thousands of plovers, cranes, and wild ducks. The reserve in Dévaványa provides a safe habitat for the great bustard, known as the ostrich of the Hungarian puszta.
