Los Arrayanes National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Los Arrayanes) is a national park in Argentina. It has an area of 17.53 square kilometers (6.77 square miles) and is located on the Quetrihué Peninsula, along the shore of Nahuel Huapi Lake in the province of Neuquén, 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) from Villa la Angostura.

Although arrayán trees (Luma apiculata) can be seen along the way to the end of the peninsula, a forest of 300-year-old arrayán trees covers 0.2 kilometers (20 hectares) at the southern tip of the peninsula. Some of these trees are over 600 years old. The forest can be reached by boat from various points on Nahuel Huapi Lake or by walking a 12-kilometer (7.5-mile) trail from the park’s entrance at the port of Villa La Angostura. This trail, which has many hills and valleys, is often ridden by mountain bikers.

The park is home to some pudú and huemul deer, guanacos, monitos de monte, and small foxes. Birds such as condors, eagles, hawks, and woodpeckers also live there.

Although Los Arrayanes was already part of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, it was established in 1971 to protect its rare arrayán tree forest. To safeguard the soil and roots of these delicate trees, a wooden path was built for visitors to enjoy the view of the cinnamon-colored trees.

Climate

The park has a cold and humid climate. Average temperatures go from 3 °C (37.4 °F) in winter to 14 °C (57.2 °F) in summer. Each year, the park gets about 1,300 millimeters (51 inches) of rainfall, with most of it falling during winter. Snow happens from July to September.
