Coiba (said in Spanish as [ˈkojβa]) is the largest island in Central America. It covers an area of 494 square kilometers (191 square miles) and is located off the Pacific coast in the Veraguas province of Panama. The island is part of the Montijo District within that province.
Chagres National Park is a nature park and protected area that was established in 1986. It is located in the Panamá and Colón provinces, in the eastern part of the Panama Canal. The park covers an area of 129,000 hectares (320,000 acres).
The park is located in the southwestern part of the Azuero Peninsula. Cerro Hoya, which is 1,559 meters (5,115 feet) high, is the highest mountain in the park and the reason the park is named. The park also includes Punta Mariato, which is the southernmost point of mainland North America.
Tenorio Volcano National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio) is located in the northern part of Costa Rica and is part of the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area. The most famous feature of the park is the Tenorio Volcano, which gives the park its name. The volcano became part of the National Park in 1995 and is located about 26 miles (42 km) northeast of Fortuna in the Guanacaste Province.
Tortuguero National Park is a protected area in the Limón Province of Costa Rica. It is located in the Tortuguero Conservation Area, which is in the northeastern part of the country. Even though it is far from cities and can only be reached by airplane or boat, it is the third-most visited park in Costa Rica.
Tapantí – Cerro de la Muerte Massif National Park, also known as Parque Nacional Tapantí – Macizo Cerro de la Muerte in Spanish, is a national park in Costa Rica’s Central Conservation Area. It is located near the edge of the Talamanca Range, close to Cartago. The park helps protect forests north of Chirripó National Park and includes part of the Orosí River.
Rincón de la Vieja National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja) is a national park located in the Guanacaste Province of northwestern Costa Rica. The park includes the Rincón de la Vieja and Santa María volcanoes, as well as the inactive Cerro Von Seebach volcano. The last eruption in the area occurred from Rincón de la Vieja in 2017.
Palo Verde National Park (in Spanish, Parque Nacional Palo Verde) is a national park in Costa Rica. It is part of the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area and includes much of the area around the Tempisque River. The park covers 18,400 hectares (45,000 acres) in Guanacaste Province.
Manuel Antonio National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio) is a small national park in the Central Pacific Conservation Area on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, just south of the city of Quepos, Puntarenas, and 157 km (98 mi) from San José, the national capital. It was created in 1972 when the local community worked to protect the natural environment by stopping development and damage. They also opposed beach rules that limited local people’s access to beaches owned by foreigners.
Irazú Volcano National Park, or in Spanish, Parque Nacional Volcán Irazú, is a protected area in the Central Conservation Zone of Costa Rica. It covers the region around the Irazú Volcano in Cartago Province, which includes an area that was once called the Ruben Torres Rojas Forest Reserve and is now named the Prusia Forest Reserve. The volcano is still active, but its last major eruptions happened between 1963 and 1965.
