Bwabwata National Park is a protected area in northeastern Namibia. It was created in 2007 and covers 6,274 km² (2,422 square miles). The park was formed by combining Namibia’s Caprivi Game Park and Mahango Game Park.
Etosha National Park is a national park in northwestern Namibia and one of the largest national parks in Africa. It became a game reserve in March 1907 under Ordinance 88, led by Governor Friedrich von Lindequist of German South West Africa. In 1958, it was designated as a protected area called Wildschutzgebiet, and in 1967, it received the status of a national park through a law passed by the Republic of South Africa.
South Luangwa National Park is a protected area in eastern Zambia. It was established as a game reserve in 1938 and later became a national park in 1972. The park covers 9,050 square kilometers (3,490 square miles) in the Luangwa River valley, which forms its eastern boundary in Zambia’s Eastern Province.
The park covers almost the entire Nyika Plateau in northern Malawi, located about 480 kilometers north of Lilongwe and 60 kilometers north of Rumphi by road. A single dirt road provides access, branching north from the road connecting Rumphi to the Katumbi border post. This road travels up the southwestern edge of the plateau, crosses the top of the plateau where it forms the border with Zambia, then descends the northwestern edge in a series of curves, continuing north to the Chisenga border post.
North Luangwa National Park is a protected area in Zambia, located in the northern part of the Luangwa River valley. It was first established as a game reserve in 1938 and later became a national park in 1972. Today, it covers an area of 4,636 square kilometers.
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a protected area in Zambia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It contains half of the Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means “The Smoke that Thunders” in the Kololo or Lozi language. This name is now used in Zambia and parts of Zimbabwe.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is located on the north side of the Zambezi River in southeastern Zambia. Before 1983, the area was a private game reserve owned by Zambia’s president. This protection limited large-scale tourism and helped preserve the park as one of Africa’s few remaining untouched wilderness areas.
Kasanka National Park is located in the Chitambo District of Zambia’s Central Province. It covers an area of about 390 kilometers (150 miles), making it one of Zambia’s smallest national parks. Kasanka was the first national park in Zambia to be managed through a partnership between a private group and the government.
Kafue National Park is the largest national park in Zambia. It covers an area of about 22,400 square kilometers, which is similar in size to Wales or Massachusetts. The park is the second largest in Africa and is home to 152 species of mammals.
Victoria Falls National Park is located in north-western Zimbabwe. It protects the south and east sides of the Zambezi River near the famous Victoria Falls. The park stretches along the Zambezi River, starting about 6 kilometers above the falls and ending about 12 kilometers below them.
