Nechisar National Park is a national park in Ethiopia. It is located in the Great Rift Valley, which is in the southwestern part of the Ethiopian Highlands.
Mago National Park is a national park in Ethiopia located in the South Ethiopia Regional State. It is about 782 kilometers south of Addis Ababa and north of a large 90° bend in the Omo River. The park covers 2,162 square kilometers and is divided by the Mago River, a tributary of the Omo, into two parts.
Gambella National Park, also spelled Gambela National Park, is a large national park in Ethiopia. It covers an area of 5,016 square kilometers (1,937 square miles) and is the country’s largest national park. The park is located several hundred kilometers away from Addis Ababa.
Bale Mountains National Park is a national park located in Ethiopia. The park covers an area of about 2,150 km² (830 square miles) in the Bale Mountains and Sanetti Plateau of the Ethiopian Highlands. The park’s Afromontane habitats have one of the highest numbers of animal species found only in that area compared to any other land habitat in the world.
Awash National Park is a national park located in Ethiopia. It is found at the border between the Oromia state and the Afar state. The park covers an area of 827 square kilometers (319 square miles), and most of it is at an altitude of 900 meters (3,000 feet).
Salonga National Park (French: Parc National de la Salonga) is a national park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, located in the Congo River basin. It is Africa’s largest tropical rainforest reserve, covering about 36,000 square kilometers or 3,600,000 hectares (8,900,000 acres). The park covers parts of the provinces of Mai Ndombe, Equateur, Kasaï, and Sankuru.
Maiko National Park (French: Parc national de la Maïko) is a national park located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Garamba National Park (French: Parc national de la Garamba) is a national park located in the north-eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It covers nearly 5,200 km² (2,000 square miles). The park is one of Africa’s oldest protected areas and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980 because it helps protect important habitats for northern white rhinoceroses, African elephants, hippos, and giraffes.
The Nyungwe Forest is located in southwestern Rwanda, near the border with Burundi. It is next to Kibira National Park to the south, Lake Kivu, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The Nyungwe rainforest is likely the best-preserved highland rainforest in Africa.
Gishwati Forest is located in the north-western part of Rwanda, near Lake Kivu. It is part of Gishwati–Mukura National Park. In 1978, the area’s forests were mostly intact, and by 1986, much of the forest cover remained.
